Wantage railway station is on the Great Western Main Line, and it originally opened in 1846 and served the community for 118 years until the Dr Richard Beeching cuts in 1964, which unfortunately resulted in the closure of the station on the 7th December 1964. Since then, trains have not stopped between Swindon and Didcot for over 58 years! However, In the last 58 years public opinion and business support has grown for the station to re-open and in 2018 Oxfordshire County Council Commissioned SLC Rail for a business case or 'statement of opinion' and seven proposed station locations were identified in Grove. Estimated costs for a new station as of 2018 was c.£12-£13 million.
