Dear Andy,
Support for the reopening of Wantage & Grove Station Thanks for getting in touch about your campaign to re-open Wantage & Grove Station on the Reading to Swindon line. TAN fully supports your aim to bring sustainable, low carbon transport to more people in Oxfordshire. This will increase people’s choice of transport and make it easier to travel in and around the area without a car. It will be particularly beneficial for younger and older people and the less well-off who are unable to run a car. Increasing access to public transport is an important part of the Government’s Decarbonisation Plan to help reduce carbon emissions. Re-opening a new railway station, especially in an area where there is a lot of new development, is a no-brainer and should be a pre-requisite before allowing further development. It will be essential for successfully delivering Oxfordshire County Council’s Local Transport and Connectivity Plan which aims to reduce 1 in every 4 car journeys of Oxfordshire’s roads by 2030. Additionally, England’s Economic Heartland’s Strategic Transport Plan has a target to reduce car kilometres by 5% every decade. To achieve these ambitious targets, will require investment in good quality and affordable public transport such as through rail re-openings and new stations. Good luck with your campaign! Yours sincerely, Chris Todd Director Transport Action Network
